Chart Translator

Upload a chart, a table or a diagram and get it back in another language, redrawn with its text translated. Every number stays as printed, and before you see the new picture, we check that no bar, point or line has moved.

The translated text: every title, label and cell beside its translation, which you can correct before the chart is drawn.

The translated chart: the picture redrawn in the new language and checked against the original, with anything that changed marked on it.

What the Check Catches

Each of these charts was translated into French with one kind of mistake an image model makes. We drew the pictures and their mistakes ourselves to show what the check marks, and the numbered boxes are what you would see on your own chart.

The French chart reads well, but the number of visitors in the week of 11 March went from 224 to about 246. No word on the chart gives it away, and the check marks the point where it was and where it went.

One step of the flowchart kept its English name, and the label of the last box came out too large for it. Both are easy to miss when you only glance at the translated picture.

Two Maltese place names lost their ħ and ġ, letters that an image model often drops. In a scientific work, a name spelled wrong is a name the reader cannot look up.

Why We Check Every Translated Chart

An image model that puts a chart into another language redraws all of it, the bars and points along with the words. It is very good at making the result look right, so a bar that grew a little or a point that moved a few pixels passes for the original. In a novel, a slip like that changes a word. In a textbook or a scientific book, it changes a result, and the reader has no way to notice.

Asking a second AI model whether the picture is right does not settle it, because it can miss what the first one missed, and it may answer differently each time you ask. So the part of our check that guards the data is a measurement: it compares the position and size of every bar, point and line with the original, and the same picture always gets the same verdict. The text is read back and compared with the translation you approved, number by number.

When the check finds something, we draw the chart again with what went wrong. If a mistake remains, you still get the picture, with each change marked and named, so you can judge it in seconds instead of comparing two charts by eye.

We explain why numbers and figures need checks of their own in our guide to scientific translation with AI.

How to Translate a Chart

  1. Upload a picture of your chart and choose the two languages. We read every text on it and translate it, which takes about a minute.
  2. Read the translation and correct anything you like. Numbers, units and symbols stay exactly as printed.
  3. Ask for the translated chart. We redraw it, check it against the original and draw it again when the check finds a problem, which takes 3 to 5 minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the chart translator free?
Yes, and you need no account. Each visitor can translate a few charts a day, and the tool shares a daily allowance between everyone, so it can run out late in the day.
Which pictures can it translate?
Charts and graphs, tables, diagrams, schematics, flowcharts, timelines, mind maps, infographics and worksheets. It leaves photos, illustrations, comics, maps and screenshots as they are, since their meaning is the picture itself or they must match something outside your document.
Can the numbers on my chart change?
Numbers, units and symbols are copied exactly as printed, and the check compares every number on the translated chart with the original, along with the position and size of every bar, point and line. If something differs, you see it marked on the picture.
Which languages are supported?
You can translate from any language we support, into languages written in the Latin, Cyrillic or Arabic script, such as English, Spanish, French, German, Polish, Russian or Arabic. Hebrew, Chinese, Japanese and Korean are not supported yet.
What happens to the picture I upload?
We use it only to translate your chart, and we delete it after 7 days, with the text read from it.
